CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a unanimous vote Tuesday night, Mecklenburg County Commissioners passed a nondiscrimination ordinance.
It comes just days after Charlotte’s nondiscrimination ordinance went into effect on October 1st.
The ordinance, prohibits employers from discriminating based on a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, veteran status, family status, pregnancy and natural hairstyles.
The ordinance gives protections for people who work anywhere, no matter the size of the company.
It’s been 5 years since North Carolina passed the HB2 ordinance, which caused a world of trouble and economic impact for Charlotte.
Mecklenburg County Commissioner Pat Cotham said, people are in a different place now and she doesn’t expect much push back from state or federal leaders.
