CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced on Wednesday it will be joining a new initiative aimed at increasing the amount of women on the police force.

CMPD is joining more than 100 other law enforcement agencies in a pledge called the 30×30 Initiative, which officials say seeks to increase the representation of women in police recruit classes to 30 percent by 2030.

Currently, officials with CMPD say women represent about 15 percent of its sworn officers (which is higher than the national average).

CMPD officials say they recognize the tremendous role women in law enforcement play, which is why it is joining likeminded organizations dedicated to taking actions that increase the support and success of qualified women officers throughout their careers.

CMPD officials say anyone who is interested in a career of service to the public as a police officer can click here to review available positions.
