A child was struck and killed after more than 100 bullets were fired towards a northwest Charlotte home late Tuesday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

Police say they believe local high school students are connected to this shooting and other recent shootings that have happened in the last few weeks. WCCB’s Alexandra Elich has more on why officials think students are involved:Play Video
Officers responded to Richard Rozzelle Drive, off of Brookshire Boulevard, around 11:45 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a child, identified as 3-year-old Asiah Figueroa, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Asiah was transported to Atrium Health and pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that multiple vehicles targeted a home on Richard Rozelle Drive firing more than 80 rounds toward the house, and this child appears to be a casualty of that violence,” police said in a news release.
The police department held a press conference Wednesday morning where they stated that nearly 150 rounds were fired into a house occupied by 11 victims. Police said in the conference that they believe the shooting is linked to other north Charlotte shootings that happened recently. In addition, police are looking into high school aged students from the area as suspects in the case.
